What is Rotary?
Membership

The heart of Rotary is our members, dedicated people who share a passion for community service and friendship. Rotary members share ideas, make plans, hear from the community, and catch up with friends during club programs, feeding the impact we make.

Rotary is a non-discriminatory, non-political, non-religious global network of 1.2 million neighbours, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

Your time, energy, and a passion to improve your world are all you need to get involved with Rotary. We welcome all genders, orientations, ages, occupations and backgrounds. You do not have to be a business owner, manager or employee - you just need to care about your community.

Corporate memberships are welcome.

To experience and learn more about Rotary you are welcome to attend one or more of our club meetings. We meet at Rotary Villas, 10th Street, Brandon on Tuesdays from 11:40 am. Meetings run from 12 – 1:00 am, Meetings include a full lunch buffet and usually a speaker or presentation on varying topics.

Or contact Glen Barclay, Chair of the Membership Committee.

What does our Club look like?

  • We were chartered in 1921.
  • We are approximately 40 members strong, from diverse walks of life
  • Approximately 25% female/75% male. How great to make that 50-50 at some point.
  • Our ages range from late 20’s to late 70’s.
  • We are non-partisan and religion does not factor in.
  • We have no secret handshake or strange rituals.
  • We work on a variety of fundraisers and projects locally and internationally.
What does it cost?

Annual membership dues are $200 per year. There is no meeting admission fee. We do have a lunch buffet available for $15. We do encourage members to contribute a minimum of $100 per year to the Rotary Foundation. Members may also attend, and will be welcomed at, any other Rotary Club meeting world-wide. Chances are that wherever you are, there is a local branch of Rotary.

What is expected of me?

Members are expected to have an attendance rate of 50%. Attendance is defined as participation in one of the following activities: Club meetings, committee meetings, visiting another Rotary Club meeting, attending a virtual meeting, active participation/volunteering in one or more of our areas of service: community, youth, international, vocational, or fundraising, or serving on the Brandon Rotary Club Westman Foundation.

The Rotary 4-Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?”

The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and non-sectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings.
